Explore Liverpool with Liverpool City Walks. Take a bespoke walk with our professionally qualified Blue Badge and Green Badge guides.

Waterfront World Heritage

Walk this way ……… to where Liverpool developed from a tiny fishing village to the second city of the empire.

You will take in the abundance of culture and heritage of these two distinct areas of our World Heritage City, with their iconic buildings and wonderful attractions.

The walk begins at the site of first construction of Liverpool’s dock system, an area that was part of the River Mersey at the time. You will learn how the award winning Royal Albert Dock, a Grade 1 Listed series of Buildings, came about. How it was designed and by whom, and with what materials, brought in from where, and for what purpose.

You will gain a thorough knowledge of every aspect of the workings of a commercial enclosed wet dock that, in its’ day, was revolutionary and the blueprint for future dock design and construction.

Learn how disused eighteenth century docks were built over to create the Pier Head – the site of Liverpool’s three iconic waterfront buildings. Access to the ground floor interiors of these 3 buildings is available during our tours on weekdays.
